Ark in Sofia Rededicated
Ark in Sofia Synagogue Rededicated
At a ceremony attended by government and Jewish leaders, the
Ark of the Central (Great) Synagogue of Sofia, Bulgaria was rededicated
on March 14, 1998. The synagogue, built from 1905 to 1910 after designs
by Austrian Friedrich Gruenanger, has been undergoing restoration since
1991. The building seats 1,200 people, but only a few thousand Jews remain
in Bulgaria.
