Hollywood's "Temple to the Stars" Sold
Temple Beth El, in Hollywood, California - once known as the "Temple to the Stars" - has been purchased by the Iranian Jewish community for use as a regional center. There are some 30,000 Iranian Jews in Los Angeles, the largest concentration in the country.
Brooklyn Jewish Center to Change
Architectural historian David Kaufman reports that the Lubavitcher yeshiva that currently occupies the former Brooklyn Jewish Center in Brooklyn, NY, is planning on obliterating the sanctuary (which remains intact save for the stained glass windows - a magnificent stained glass dome, on the other hand, is still in place). Their plan is to create more classroom space. The history of the Center is recounted in Kaufman's book, Shul with a Pool and appears on the book's cover.
