Brookline, Massachusetts’ Ohabei Shalom’s Copper Dome Repaired
Massachusetts’ oldest Jewish congregation, Ohabei Shalom, 1187 Beacon
Street, has almost completed replacing the copper dome atop its sanctuary.
The dome was originally designed by Clarence Blackall in 1928. The
dome, which was likened to that of Hagia Sophia when it was erected, had
sustained irreparable damage. The congregation will have spent $330,000
for its new dome. The replacement has been designed to appear identical
to the original -- only minor design changes were necessary.
