Montreal Cemetery Vandalized
Forty-three monuments at Memorial Gardens, better known as the Back
River Cemetery Jewish cemetery, in the north end of Montreal were toppled.
While the damage appears to be the work of vandals, most of the rest cemetery
is in decrepit condition, as well. It is hoped that this deplorable
act will draw the attention of the Jewish community. Its attention,
and the funding it may provide, are necessary to restore the cemetery.
Funeral director Laurence Paperman believes that $1.5 million is required
for restoration.
