Dresden to Build Synagogue on Site of Kristallnacht Destruction
In Dresden, plans were recently announced to begin construction of a new synagogue on the site of the former synagogue, destroyed on Kristallnacht in 1938 and then further obliterated during the fire bombing of the city. This will be the first new synagogue built in the former East Germany since the reunification of Germany in 1990. In an effort at reconciliation, the Bishop of Dresden has asked members of his diocese to contribute to the building fund.
