Historical Data: Today, there is a cemetery on the outskirts of town to the west. It has some quite interesting tombstones, dating back to the 17th century. No Jews have lived in Xanthi since the Holocaust.
Area/Capacity: 4,280 sq. m.
Actual Condition: Part of the wall surrounding the cemetery is damaged.
Necessary Restoration Works: The wall surrounding the cemetery needs immediate restoration. The tombstones have to be cleaned up and conserved.
Estimated Cost: 20 million drs. ($57,000 US)
[The Synagogue of Kos does not exist.
It was transferred to the Municipality and is currently used as a cultural
center.]
