CEMETERY OF ATHENS II
 The Holocaust Memorial inside the Jewish Cemetery of Athens

Historical Data:  The second Jewish cemetery in Athens occupies a part of the third Christian cemetery in Nikaia (an area outside Athens).  Its use started just after the War when the Municipality of Athens gave this area to the Jewish community.  The cemetery is at present used by the Athens Jewish Community.

Area/Capacity:   20,000 sq. m.

Actual Condition:  It is protected by a wurrounding wall and it is guarded.  The recent earthquake caused serious damages to the small building situated inside the cemetery used for burial services.  Restoration works are needed.

Necessary Restoration Works:  Restoration works are needed on the small building situated inside the cemetery and also general preservation works for the whole area, and for the oldest of the tombstones.

Estimated Cost:   3 million drs. ($9,000 US)
