DescriptionMickve Israel is easily recognizable by the large six pointed star above the entrance and is

Gothic architecture. The building design is more often associated with curches however there

are many Jewish symbols. The simple wooden pews have velvet cushions. It is in excellent

condition, on the original site and is altered.

SignificanceThis is the only example of pur Gothic Revival Synagogue in the US derived from the Gothic

Cathedrals in Europe. It is located on the prayer site of the larges number of Jews (42) who

came to the US prior to 1800. Today the structure is virtually unchanged.
