What is ISJM?

The International Survey of Jewish Monuments (ISJM) is an independent, non-profit, membership based, educational organization dedicated to the documentation, study, care and conservation of historic Jewish sites throughout the world.

A primary role of ISJM is to serve as a clearing-house of information about current projects and programs that effect Jewish monuments, especially through the posting of news, photos, reports, directories and other materials on this site.

ISJM also sponsors reseach and preservation projects, and contributes technical and financial assistance to projects supervised by other organizations.

ISJM is registered as a 501 (c) 3 organization and a New York State Charity.   The organization is member-based and has no regular sources of funding.  The major source of ISJM funding comes from member contributions and grants for projects.  Depending on the grant, up to 20% may be taken to support ISJM operations.  In most cases, ISJM uses 5-10% of grants to cover administrative and other project related costs.
